Rogers Group was founded by Ralph Rogers who first began crushing rock in 1908 on the side of the road in then-rural Bloomington, Indiana.
Noteworthy projects over the decades include: Oak Ridge, Tennessee (home of the "Manhattan Project" nuclear research); Fort Campbell, Kentucky (home of the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division); Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division near Indianapolis, Indiana; EPCOT Center in Orlando, Florida; and Dolphin Stadium in Miami.
Rogers Group commemorated its 100th anniversary in 2008 by hosting local celebrations for all employees and retirees, conducting a company-wide campaign focused on volunteer projects and publishing a corporate history book (
From the Ground Up: How Rocks, Roads, and Rogers Group Helped Build the Nation).
Rogers Group is still owned by descendants of Ralph Rogers, most notably great-grandchildren Ben L. Rechter, Dave Rechter and Lori Harper, all of whom serve on RGI's board of directors with Ben as the chairman.
